AMS - Buenos Aires Workshop
Apr 24, 2024 15:30 - 17:00(Europe/Amsterdam)
20240424T1530 20240424T1700 Europe/Amsterdam Dialogue Maquette

Background In order to address the housing shortage, hundreds of thousands of homes will be built in the coming years. This often occurs in new hybrid building blocks with extremely high densities. Precisely because of these densities, the construction task offers an opportunity to make significant strides in addressing important social and ecological questions.

How can these buildings contribute to biodiversity, be as energy positive as possible, and make smarter use of interventions for climate adaptation? What we know for sure is that the available space on the facades of these building blocks is scarce. But what is possible if we choose a radically integrated perspective? And where is technical innovation needed?

The HvA (Hogeschool van Amsterdam) Centre of Expertise in Building Transformation, led by Dr. Frank Suurenbroek, along with Associate Professor-Researcher in Adaptive Architecture, Dr. Cecilia Chiappini, in collaboration with Bureau Bura (including projects such as Merwedekanaalzone) and Studio KU+ are developing and testing a dialogue model as a means to collectively explore the opportunities and possibilities. The workshop will provide accessible tools to understand and further test such issues in practical applications. Activity Description This is an interactive workshop where we will use a physical model to allow experts from different disciplines to collaborate transdisciplinary and visualize and discuss some of the challenges of our built environment.
